LLOYD DURU

Fellow of Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) and Member of the Governing Council; Fellow of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Nigeria; Fellow of International Institute of Leadership and Governance (INILAG) and serves as Registrar.

Lloyd was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1992 with 2nd Class Upper Division.

He was among the first set of professionals to liberalize the teaching of Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Africa since 2002.

Lloyd was involved in designing the Arbitration and ADR curricula now being taught in the Nigerian Law School and was involved in training the trainers who now mainstream ADR in institutions like the Nigerian Ombudsman – Public Complaints Commission; Legal Aid Council; Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution; Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps; etc.

Consultant to Mercy Corps on Interest-Based Negotiation and Mediation for Nigerian Military Personnel, Judicial Officers, Community Leaders, Religious Leaders, Women, and Youths.

Consultant to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Danish Refugee Council (DRC) and Danish Demining Group (DDG); Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ); Search for Common Ground (SFCG); European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES); among others.

He undertook numerous specialized local and international courses in the areas of Arbitration; Mediation; Negotiation Techniques and Skills; Conflict Analysis; Conflict Management organized by institutions like DCON Consulting; United States Institute for Peace (USIP); International Law Association (ILA); United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR); UNCTAD; Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa-South Africa (AFSA); Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC), Association of Professional Negotiators and Mediators (APNM); Dispute Resolution Associates (DRA); etc.

Lloyd is Director of Studies and Legal Adviser of Mediation Training Institute Nigeria (MTI); Head, Legal/Ombudsman, Fellowship of Partners for the Protection of Ethics and Values (FOPPEV). Faculty member of Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC); a member of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) as well as Section on Business Law of NBA. He is a member, Panel of Neutrals at Kano Multi-Door Courthouse (KMDC). Lloyd was the pioneer Registrar, Association of Professional Negotiators and Mediators (APNM).

Lloyd has been involved in several arbitral proceedings and has participated as Sole Arbitrator or Co-Arbitrator or Registrar or Mediator in several unchallenged arbitral proceedings and mediation sessions.
